Release Counselling for Women is 2!

As we approach Christmas, we also come to the end of the second exciting year of Release Counselling & Therapy for Women!

2014 has been a busy year of growth for us, and here are some of the highlights:

-Over the last two years, since Release began, we have received referrals from 94 individual women

-During 2014, 6 women completed the ‘Into the Light’ 10-week group for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and are continuing to meet for peer-led support

-We also successfully ran our ‘Boost Your Confidence and Improve Your Self-Esteem’ Course for 12 women, in partnership with Project Gateway, a women’s service in Portslade

-In 2014, 14 women have engaged in one-to-one counselling

-20 women are currently on our waiting list for our therapeutic groups in 2015, and 5 women for one-to-one counselling

-Release was awarded grants from Sussex Community Foundation and Brighton & Hove City Council to run our therapeutic groups in the community

-A team of 5 runners successfully completed the Brighton 10k in aid of Release, and raised an amazing £2,000.

This is what some women have had to say about their experiences at Release Counselling this year:

“ Release Counselling has changed my life for the better.”

“I have found tremendous healing through telling my story. I was supported and listened to beautifully throughout my counselling sessions, and I have now begun the wonderful process of coming home to myself. Thankyou.”

“Participating in the group has had a huge impact on my recovery- it has propelled me forwards…”

“I have learnt so much about myself and why I do certain things, and that I am not alone. I am a survivor and not a victim and have my place in this world and can hold my head up. Thank you for the opportunity to grow.”

2015 looks set to be a year of further growth for Release. In the New Year we launch a new 10-week support group for new mums called MummyShock. We will also be re-running our group with Into the Light, for survivors of childhood sexual abuse in May 2015.
