Counselling offers you a safe, supportive, confidential space to talk through whatever difficulties you are facing, and to explore difficult thoughts and feelings.
What to Expect
People seek counselling for many reasons including; anxiety, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, stress, low self-esteem, depression, loss or bereavement, abuse, spirituality issues. Through listening non-judgmentally to you, our role is to enable you to better understand your thoughts and feelings, and to support you to find a way to move forwards.
Session details
We offer weekly sessions lasting 50 minutes, which will continue for up to 18 sessions. We offer face to face counselling on Wednesday evenings in Hove. Zoom sessions are available on request.
Confidentiality
All personal information shared during counselling is confidential to the service.
No information will be disclosed to another person without your consent, unless in exceptional circumstances, as a requirement of a Court of Law or if it was believed that you were of serious harm to yourself or another person.
Our Counselling Team
We have a large team of carefully selected trainee counsellors at Release, offering a range of approaches and modalities. We also have a small team of qualified counsellors in the service.
Exclusions
Unfortunately we cannot work with certain kinds of issues or difficulties which you may be experiencing. These are:
Difficulties with alcohol, substance use or some other kind of addiction; or a history of these kinds of problem
Eating problems, or a history of these problems
A diagnosis you’ve received from a psychiatrist or psychologist
A history of contact with mental health services
A long term history of taking medication for your mental health
A diagnosis of complex trauma
Active thoughts of suicide, or a history of this
If you are experiencing these issues and problems above, we are very sorry that we can’t take you. We know that people with these issues desperately need help, but we need to be sure our service can meet your needs.
Fees
Release aims to provide counselling that is low-cost and easily accessible for all women, regardless of their circumstances. Fees for one-to-one counselling are charged on a sliding scale, according to each individual’s ability to pay. This ranges from £20-£40 per hour for one-to-one counselling.
First Steps
There will be an Initial Assessment where you will:
Have an opportunity to ask questions about what we can offer and consider together if us working together would be right for you
Outline what has brought you to counselling, and what you hope to gain
Agree a number of weekly sessions, and a regular time to review the counselling
Assess your needs
Agree a weekly donation for your counselling
